many times I have asked people this question, what is forgivness and do we really have to do it to be a better person? for many years I had thought that when you forgave someone you were letting him her or them off the hook. that you are letting what ever the thing that was done go. I am finding that this is very wrong. that it is not the action that is being forgiven but the person. The person or persons still need to be held acountable in some degree for the action, but the forgiveness means that I am no longer holding resentments for that person any longer and that I can move on in my life. What really brings this to lite is they were dong a story on the amish people that lost some children last year when a shooter entered a school and killed some children. when the shooter himself had died, some amish people went to his families house and made sure they were alright and comforted them. then when they got a lot of money in donations to help them they shared with the family of the shooter. now that is something i call for givness, practicing what they truly believe in. it really inspired me to look at my own believes on forgiveness and how I deal with it. _________________
